Everton have only scored seven goals in their opening six Premier League games, which led to a number of pundits predicting who will be the club’s top scorer this season.

Sean Dyche has been worrying more about his side’s defensive capabilities in the opening six games of the Premier League season, as they’ve conceded 15 already.

Everton have relied on Dwight McNeil to deliver the good this season, which highlights how inconsistent Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been in front of goal.

The former has been so good that Gabriel Agbonlahor has even mentioned McNeil in the same sentence as Real Madrid and Barcelona after his brace last time out.

Interestingly, the lack of goals prompted Gary Lineker, Micah Richards and Alan Shearer to ask a question from a fan on who Everton’s top scorer will be this season.

Speaking on YouTube, Gary Lineker, Micah Richards and Alan Shearer were all asked who Everton’s top scorer will be this season.

Richards went for Dwight McNeil, whilst Lineker and Shearer went for Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Who’s more likely to be Everton’s top scorer this season

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s chances depend on two things.

He really needs to find his feet and some form if he’s to stand any chance, though the Toffees aren’t blessed with loads of quality back-up options so there’s not too much pressure on him.

Also, Newcastle are supposedly interested in Calvert-Lewin and a cut-price deal could be agreed in January.

McNeil has already shared his dream of playing in Everton’s new stadium, so he looks set to see out the January transfer window.

The former Burnley man is also playing a more advanced central role now after a switch from Sean Dyche, which could bring about more opportunities to score goals after a brace in his first game there.
