There’s a sense of relief around Everton after victory at Goodison Park, with one player even being lauded as a potential Barcelona player.

Everton picked up their first Premier League victory of the season on the weekend as they defeated Crystal Palace 2-1.

Sean Dyche’s side moved out of the relegation zone and up to 16th ahead of another home tie against Newcastle United on Saturday.

Speaking after the Palace win, a talkSPORT pundit made a very bold claim about the matchwinner Dwight McNeil.

Gabriel Agbonlahor says Dwight McNeil could play for Barcelona if he had more pace

TalkSPORT pundit Gabriel Agbonlahor included Dwight McNeil in his Team of the Week after netting twice against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Agbonlahor went on to make a very bold claim that McNeil, who signed for £15 million, could play for Barcelona and Real Madrid if he was a bit quicker.

“If he had pace, McNeil, I think he would be playing for Real Madrid, Barcelona because his left foot is a wand,” the former Aston Villa striker said.

“He can find a pass, he can strike a ball, that goal he scored, his first goal, it’s becoming a trademark goal now from McNeil.

“Give him time and he will hit that top corner. His second goal, hits the target always hits the target, McNeil and he’s a real special player.

“Like I said, if this guy had pace, he would be playing at a high, high level. Top player.”

Everton must continue the momentum vs Newcastle

After a miserable start to the season, Everton now have the chance to put two wins together and give themself some breathing room heading into the international break.

Micah Richards thinks Everton will avoid relegation this season as they’ve shown more than enough quality to score goals.

It’s just about tightening up the defence now and Jarrad Branthwaite’s return from injury will massively help in achieving that.

McNeil and Tony Bellew were impressed by Branthwaite’s display against Crystal Palace.
