Everton’s 2024/25 campaign is now up and running but the season has not gotten off to the start the home crowd will have wanted.
The final season at Goodison Park has kicked off with defeat against Brighton & Hove Albion as the visitors sealed a 3-0 victory.
Sean Dyche has a lot to work on now back at Finch Farm ahead of what is going to be a tough game on the road against Tottenham Hotspur.
Everton were not helped by a VAR call which did not go in their favour shortly after the break after a penalty decision was overturned.
But it seems as if there may actually have been an issue during the consultation with the VAR monitor following the penalty decision.

VAR error led to Everton’s penalty being overturned
Was there ever going to be any other way to start the new season that a controversial VAR decision at Goodison Park?
Everton thought they had been granted a route back into the game shortly after half-time but it was quickly overturned by VAR.
According to BBC Sport, Simon Hooper did not actually consult his monitor due to a technical error.
The Toffees will be hoping this is not going to be another season lingering around the bottom three and frustrating VAR calls are not going to help the Blues at all.
‘Just on that Everton no-penalty… It turns out there was a technical issue with the main VAR screen so referee Simon Hooper had to use the back-up monitor. Not something you see everyday,’ said BBC’s coverage of the game.
It’s not what Everton fans want to hear but they will now just be hoping for a season without more decisions like this going against them.
Sean Dyche needs to make a decision at striker
Everton are crying out for a change up top with Dominic Calvert-Lewin failing to provide the difference on Saturday afternoon.
A lot is still being made of the striker’s future with Calvert-Lewin still a potential sale this summer from Everton with just 12 months left on his deal.
Iliman Ndiaye did not start the game against Brighton but the Everton boss must now be considering the summer signing ahead of next week’s game.
Everton are also being linked with a move for Barcelona’s Vitor Roque, but there is now less than two weeks for the Toffees to secure any new signings.
