Everton are in need of a major rebuild this summer.
Several players, including long-term servants Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Abdoulaye Doucoure, have already left Everton.
David Moyes has admitted that he has a big job on his hands this summer, with so many areas of the squad that need to be addressed.
“It’s a situation you don’t see very often,” the Scotsman explained. “I’m not saying there’s not 10 or 11 players out of contract at other clubs, but we’ve got five on loan, so we’ve got to give those players back unless we’re going to buy them.
“So it’s an unprecedented situation I see when I’ve come in. Do I really want a huge overhaul? Probably not.
“I think it’s too big a task to try and get it all done at once. But we’ll try and do our best to get ourselves better and hopefully move up the table.”
Carlos Alcaraz and Thierno Barry are the first two arrivals this window, but there is plenty more to do, however, there is now a worrying transfer development emerging out of the club.

Everton fans worried after hearing how many signings David Moyes wants to make
Everton fans have been reacting to the post below on X, formerly known as Twitter, with many concerned that Moyes only wants four to six more signings.
@DanMc1878 posted: “Need at least 7/8 imo especially with the fact we’ve 4 spare loan slots still to be used. Possibly losing Gueye, Ndiaye and Beto with afcon aswell so get grooving Davey.”
“Feel like 6 is needed at least CM maybe 2 RW maybe 2 LB RB CB LW and ST r sorted now,” @sophefc2023 admitted.
“4 is nowhere near enough btw. 4 first team starters yes then squad fillers’ not 4 like Jack Harrison thinking that will do,” @PapaSmurf1878 said.
“Oh dear the articles are starting to quote lower estimates now lads. 4 would be a disaster,” pattoJPN1 commented.
@TheMTVD explained: “Starting level RW & CM. Then competition at LB & RW as a minimum. That’s with O’Brien as first choice RB & Patterson, Armstrong & Chermiti in the squad- some would benefit from loans but would need replacing if so. And that’s still a thin squad… reckon we still need 8 or so.”
@redgieballs vented his frustration: “Basically told us we’re going to be short yet again. So 2 or 3 injuries which is pretty much a guarantee we’re f—–. Said the same thing every window in the past. Starts of with we need 9, sign 2 then hopefully 4-6, translated as 4 max if lucky and will end up 3. So 5 in total.”
Moyes clearly doesn’t want to upset the dressing room
Moyes has always placed great emphasis on building a strong culture around the training ground, and it seems he’s keen to avoid disrupting that.
The 62-year-old evidently has concerns around adding too many players to his squad in the fear it’d ruin the community feel he’s managed to restore over the last seven months.
But, there really is little choice, as Everton have so many areas of the pitch that need strengthening if they’re to push up the table.
Moyes has admitted he’d love to qualify for Europe, but that will be difficult to achieve if they only manage to bring in four or five new players.
A telling for weeks awaits on Merseyside, with the Friedkins ready to hand Moyes a sizable budget.
