Everton were held by Leeds United on Monday night – and something David Moyes did in the game will have greatly intrigued one fringe player.
Everton drew 1-1 with Leeds, and it was really a game of two halves.
Daniel Farke’s side were much the better team in the first 45, with the wing-backs causing havoc.
Everton fans, who was your standout performer in the 1-1 draw with Leeds? 🤔
But in the second-half, David Moyes changed the system to match Leeds’, and used wing-backs himself, with Jarrad Branthwaite coming on to play a back three.
This was a good call from Moyes, and one that helped shift the momentum back in Everton’s favour, with Thierno Barry eventually equalising.
Many have remarked how Everton looked better playing with wing-backs – and surely, the move would have been particularly intriguing for Adam Aznou.
Adam Aznou could finally get Everton chance as wing-back

Many Everton fans have been bemused by Aznou’s lack of minutes so far.
He signed in the summer for around £8 million (via BBC Sport) from Bayern Munich, but has failed to oust Vitaliy Mykolenko from the starting XI.
This has been a real frustration for Evertonians, many of whom think that Mykolenko is poor when it comes to getting forward.
Indeed, since signing for Everton back in January 2022, the Ukraine international has managed just four goals and three assists in 145 appearances.
He may be a defender first and foremost, but the position of full-back these days demands the player to contribute going forward.
Aznou surely has to be handed more minutes after THAT display…😫
He showed more in his cameo than Mykolenko has all season
Now, if Moyes started to go with a wing-backs system more often, off the back of that second-half performance against Leeds, then this might open the door for Aznou, who is an attack-minded player.
Aznou showcased this recently when he made his debut against Sunderland in the FA Cup, injecting energy and impetus as soon as he came on as a late substitute. Playing further forward, he won a penalty that got Everton back into the game.
What David Moyes has said about Aznou
So many fans are tired of Mykolenko and would absolutely love to see Aznou given a proper chance.
But perhaps at the moment Moyes doesn’t trust the youngster to play as a left-back.
But Aznou would surely suit playing as a wing-back much more, as there is more defensive cover provided from the left centre-back, who would likely be Jarrad Branthwaite.
After his debut against Sunderland, Moyes suggested that Aznou’s physicality was the reason he hasn’t played much, saying: “We played him in a different role when he came on today, we played him higher, more or less as a winger, and we have got him as a left back.

“The competition to play those roles is very very high. That makes it less likely in some ways but I was really pleased with Adam.
“He is a great boy, he’s got bits about him that are ready. It is just that physically to be a left back in the Premier League, that is where we are needing him to develop.”
Aznou has previously talked up his one-vs-one dribbling, suggesting that he would flourish as a wing-back and offer more going forward than Mykolenko.
Hopefully though, if Moyes does want to proceed with a three-man defence and wing-backs, Aznou – who Seamus Coleman has told to be patient – will be strongly considered to replace Mykolenko.
