Premier League KMI verdict makes a mockery of Everton controversy

Everton have been informed by the Premier League key match incidents panel that they have benefited from incorrect officiating decisions.

Monday evening’s game against Manchester City provided more controversy after Everton were denied a penalty in the latter stages of the game.

Merlin Rohl was dragged to the ground by Bernardo Silva, but Michel Oliver and VAR waved away the incident.

Who is to blame for this? 🙄

This is becoming a real issue for Everton and costing them valuable points! 😭

David Moyes was furious with the penalty decision against City as the Toffees learn that the Premier League believe they have benefited referee’s making wrong decisions in the 2025/26 campaign.

Everton told they’ve benefited from VAR this season

Speaking to Everton News, Mark Clattenburg denied Everton’s penalty appeal because the ball was not in play when the grappling started.

However, that does not cover some of the other decisions that have gone against the Blues, especially over recent weeks.

Another penalty decision not going in Everton’s favour? 🫣

Bernardo Silva wasn't even looking at the ball 🤷‍♂️

According to BBC Sport, the Premier League’s key match incidents panel actually believe Everton have benefited from VAR decisions this season.

It is claimed the Blues have only suffered from one incorrect decision this season, which was the appeal for a penalty in the home defeat against Arsenal.

The report also adds that Everton have benefited from four incorrect decisions that have gone in their favour.

Incorrect Everton decisionsOpponentIncident
1Wolves Wolves should have had a penalty
2ArsenalArsenal should have had a penalty
3ChelseaChelsea should have had a penalty
4Aston VillaJames Garner should have been awarded a second yellow card

Given some of the decisions even since the return from the international break, this will be very hard to accept by Everton supporters.

Everton fans will not feel they have benefited from VAR

Taking to TalkingPoints on the back of Monday’s draw against Man City, it was apparent that Everton supporters did not feel like VAR was acting in their favour.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall could not believe VAR’s penalty decision against Rohl, with Silva almost rugby tackling him to the ground.

Everton’s frustrations with the officials go all the way back to the curtain-raiser at Elland Road back in August, when James Tarkowski was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the box.

The number of decisions that Everton feel have gone against them in the months since leaves the KMI admission almost mocking the Toffees and their supporters.
