Everton came away with a defeat against Southampton at the weekend, but Russell Martin was full of praise for the Toffees and Sean Dyche after the game.
Southampton had 66% possession against Everton, which is rather concerning when you consider the fact they were rock bottom prior to kick-off on Saturday.
This isn’t something new for the Toffees though, as they currently sit rock bottom for average possession per game in the Premier League this season.
Sean Dyche decided to launch an attack on the officials over their lack of a red card for Jan Bednarek after a collision with Beto, but that was brushed aside by Dermot Gallagher.
However, Russell Martin was complimentary of Everton and Sean Dyche, sharing what they did that made it so difficult for his side to break them down.

Russell Martin pinpoints rare positive for Sean Dyche and Everton
Some Everton fans have called for Sean Dyche to be sacked and replaced with David Moyes, as two disappointing performances are beginning to take their toll.
It wouldn’t be as much of an issue if we played nice, attacking football, but it’s the negativity we are set up with that really drives fans crazy.
However, one man who is a fan of the way Everton play is Southampton boss Russell Martin, as he praised us after the game.
Speaking courtesy of BeanymanSports2, Russell Martin stated this.
“They threw everything at us and they’re a good team, strong team, organised. Really organised out of possession, they make it so difficult for you.”
Sean Dyche’s philosophies at Everton
There’s no doubting that Sean Dyche knows how to keep a side up, having already proven that at Everton since taking charge.
However, we are Everton football club, we need to be looking to achieve bigger things than just playing to avoid relegation, especially with the new owners and new stadium coming.
With players like Iliman Ndiaye and Dwight McNeil in attack, these players are suited to fast-paced, front-foot style football, not the slow build-up and sitting back we see right now.
Another issue is the team selection, as having Jarrad Branthwaite sit on the bench just seems crazy when you think about how James Tarkowski has performed of late.
