Everton have certainly had their fair share of struggles already this season in the Premier League with four straight defeats to open up the campaign.

Sean Dyche has been able to get his side back on track, however, with the Toffees now five games unbeaten as they go into Saturday’s trip to Southampton.

It may be a tricky game for Everton against the side who sit rock bottom of the Premier League with Dwight McNeil missing training on Thursday and seemingly Friday through an injury issue.

Dyche could well be boosted by the availability of Abdoulaye Doucoure who trained on Friday despite being an injury doubt.

But there is one player so desperately out of form that Dyche has been forced to hold private talks with in hope of helping him find his best form.

Sean Dyche holds private Dominic Calvert-Lewin talk at Everton

Dyche spoke to the media from Finch Farm on Thursday where he provided an insight into how he has been handling Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s struggles in front of goal.

“He’s working hard at his game and finding that streak which brought him goals previously. He hasn’t scored regularly for a while and getting back in that zone can come,” Dyche said.

“We speak about it endlessly as managers, finding a goal can get it started when being in the right area hits you and goes in.

“I’ve spoken to him about performances, the level of the consistency and trying to find it. Goals will come if you keep making sure you’re playing well and running hard, goals will come.”

It has been a real slog for the Englishman this season with Pat Nevin noticing how frustrated Calvert-Lewin has got at Everton after being isolated up top.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin may have hinted at new Everton contract

It is no secret that Calvert-Lewin’s contract is coming to an end at Goodison Park at the end of the current season.

This comes after Manchester United showed interest in Calvert-Lewin over the summer among others.

However, the Englishman may have just hinted towards staying on Merseyside beyond this summer as Calvert-Lewin admitted he’s targeting Romelu Lukaku’s Everton goal record as he sits 13 goals behind currently.

“For me, I’m joint-third top scorer in the Premier League for Everton so I need 13 more goals at this moment in time to surpass Romelu,” the striker said.

“As you can see, I know a lot about that. That’s been something on my agenda from the start of the season – being Everton’s all-time highest scorer in the Premier League.”

Given he has only been able to return two goals so far this season, he may need beyond the rest of the term to surpass Lukaku’s return which would require him to ink a new deal.
