Everton’s summer has now burst into life, with the club today confirming Mark Travers as their third signing of the window.

Everton turned Carlos Alcaraz’s loan move to the club permanent earlier in the window.

And last week, fans rejoiced as Everton finally confirmed striker Thierno Barry had joined from Villarreal.

And just today, Everton announced their third signing of the summer in the form of goalkeeper Mark Travers.

It has been reported that David Moyes could make four to six more new signings before the summer is out, and fans hope he and The Friedkin Group can oversee a positive next few weeks on the recruitment front.

Everton are still in the market for a new midfielder, after the exits of Abdoulaye Doucoure and Orel Mangala.

Jacob Ramsey has been linked with Everton, and it will be interesting to see if that one develops.

Especially because a big claim has now been made about Douglas Luiz.

In the last week or so, speculation has been rife about Everton being interested in Douglas Luiz.

It was suggested that Moyes liked Luiz’s Premier League experience and quality on the ball.

But a new claim has been made this evening – and it’s one that is likely to disappoint many Evertonians.

According to the Daily Mail, Moyes is actually not looking to pursue Luiz at this stage.

Not much information is offered regarding this stance.

But seemingly, Everton’s focus is on other players at the moment, and many will probably now be hoping to see some developments with Ramsey.

Elsewhere, Nottingham Forest have now joined the race for Luiz according to talkSPORT.

Everton fans have already backed a move for Ramsey, who can also play out wide if needed.

Everton could miss a trick not pursuing Luiz

Plenty of Everton fans really wanted to see Moyes sign Luiz when the reports of interest were first doing the rounds.

It is a real shame that the Toffees aren’t in for him at the moment, if the latest claim is true.

Because Luiz remains a top midfielder, despite his underwhelming 2024/25 season with Juventus.

Everyone saw how good he was at Aston Villa, and his final season with them was highly impressive as he scored 10 goals and made 10 assists in 53 appearances.

He would apparently only cost just over £20 million to sign, so Everton not going in for him doesn’t make a great deal of sense.

He’s a proven performer in the Premier League, a Brazil international and someone with a point to prove after last season.

As recently as May 2024, Luiz was branded ‘world-class’ by his then-Aston Villa teammate John McGinn (via The Athletic), so hopefully, this stance from Everton will change and we do still see an approach later in the window.

Unless, of course, Everton have received word that Luiz isn’t keen to join, which of course would change everything.
