Movement seems to be occurring on the striker front for Everton.
The Toffees have kept an eye on the striker market throughout January, but despite tentative interest in Jorgen Strand Larsen and Tammy Abraham, as well as a failed bid for Youssef En-Nesyri, no concrete moves have been made by The Friedkin Group.
However, a late market opportunity seems to be arising after Everton declared interest in Jhon Duran – formerly of Aston Villa.
Sabah in Turkey now provide an update on this situation, and it bodes well for Everton.
Everton want Jhon Duran… would he be an upgrade on Thierno Barry? 👀
Fenerbahce drop Jhon Duran amid Everton interest and he wants Premier League return
This seems to be a situation which is developing rapidly.
TRT Spor initially claimed that Duran wants to remain with Fenerbahce, where he is currently on loan from Al-Nassr.
Now, however, Sabah believe Fenerbahce have dropped the Colombia international from the squad for the upcoming UEFA Europa League clash against Basel in order for the striker to sort out his future.
The Turkish news outlet add that Duran is now open to returning to the Premier League as well, suggesting Fenerbahce are forcing the 22-year-old out after just five goals in 21 appearances.
It remains to be seen how much Al-Nassr would accept for a permanent sale this winter, having spent a whopping £64m to sign the South American from Aston Villa as recently as January 2025.
Jhon Duran deal would prove Everton were right to wait
The winter transfer window is a strange market where most opportunities open up later on, which is exactly what seems to be happening now.
If this patience from The Friedkin Group now ends up with Duran moving to Merseyside, Everton fans should never push the recruitment team to rush a deal again.
There are so many to choose from! 🫣
Jean-Philippe Gbamin is surely in your top three… 😫
The Colombian was arguably the hottest striker in Europe 12 months ago, lobbing Manuel Neuer at Villa Park and even scoring a Premier League Goal of the Month winner against Jordan Pickford at the same venue.
It was no surprise to see Al-Nassr spend £64m on Duran as a result, and if his troubles in Saudi Arabia as well as Turkey now result in Everton securing his signature, it would be a major coup for David Moyes.
