Surprising Sean Dyche development emerges as former Everton boss could now seal return to management

Most Everton fans were mightily relieved when Sean Dyche left the club in January.

The Toffees sat just above the relegation zone having had a very poor season under the Englishman, with goalscoring a particular issue.

Everton were relatively solid at the back. But the team were toothless in the final third, and ultimately, the way Sean Dyche had Everton playing was unsustainable.

Interestingly, The Friedkin Group were actually prepared to give Dyche more time to try and turn things around.

But it was Dyche who facilitated his exit in the end.

Dyche told The Friedkin Group he’d taken Everton as far as he could, and the new owners then negotiated his severance package, before appointing David Moyes.

But Dyche could soon be back in management, with new claims being made today about the ex-Everton boss.

This morning journalist Alan Nixon has reported about Dyche in relation to him returning to football management.

Although he ultimately struggled at Everton, Dyche will surely not be short of options. Ally McCoist recently said he’d like to see Dyche at Rangers, although there have not yet been any links.

Nixon claims that Leicester City have reignited their interest in him now, going into the summer.

The Foxes, of course, are faced with a big rebuild following their sorry 2024/25 Premier League campaign which saw them suffer relegation.

They are looking to replace Ruud van Nistelrooy, and Dyche is seen as a potentially good appointment due to the fact he had proven success at Burnley, with whom he achieved promotion twice.

He is also based in the Midlands.

Interestingly, Nixon actually claims that Leicester had the opportunity to hire Dyche during the current season.

He says sources close to Dyche said he was willing to take the job, but Leicester ignored him.

Leicester ignoring Dyche was surprising

If it’s true that Leicester overlooked Dyche, then that is quite surprising.

It’s not made clear when exactly Leicester considered appointing Dyche. But seeing how much van Nistelrooy struggled, there may well be some regrets they didn’t get him.

Sean Dyche record at Everton (January 2023-January 2025)
Games managed – 83
Wins – 26
Draws – 24
Losses – 33
Goals scored – 99
Goals conceded – 122

It would have been a very tall order for Dyche to keep them up had he taken the job this season. But he surely would not have done any worse than the Dutchman.

It’ll be interesting to see if he does now become the Foxes’ new manager.

Although he likely won’t see it that way, it’s a good opportunity for him to rebuild his reputation a bit and obviously he has previously got Burnley out of Championship twice.
