The average age of Everton’s squad and where it ranks in the Premier League

The Friedkin Group have placed a lot more emphasis on recruiting young talent since their Everton takeover in December 2024.

The Friedkins changed the transfer model post the Farhad Moshiri era, as they recognised that the Everton squad was ageing.

Sean Dyche built one of the oldest average-aged squads in the division, so the American Investors ensured that last summer’s business was centred around young players.

How would you rate The Friedkin Group’s first year at Everton? 👏

In came the likes of Tyler Dibling (19), Adam Aznou (19), Carlos Alcaraz (22), Thierno Barry (23) and Merlin Rohl (23).

So, with that said, we’ve taken a look at what the current squad’s average age is and where it ranks in the Premier League.

Everton’s squad has an average age of 26.6

In the 2024/25 season, Everton’s squad had an average age of 27.6, and now it has been reduced by a year to 26.6.

The Toffees still have the third-oldest team in the Premier League, behind Fulham and Aston Villa, but they will more than likely reduce that even further for next season.

#TeamAverage age
1Fulham 27.7
2Aston Villa27.3
3Everton26.6
4Burnley26.5
5Newcastle United26.4
6Leeds United26.3

Everton are currently in talks to sign Wesley Gassova, who is an exciting 20-year-old winger for Al-Nassr, so that is evidence to suggest the Friedkins are still looking to drive down the squad’s age.

Luiz Henrique (24) is also being tipped to join the Toffees before the end of the January transfer window, so progress is being made.

Everton will bid farewell to a couple of veterans this summer

Moyes is set to see some of his older players depart at the end of their contracts this summer.

Idrissa Gana Gueye, 36, is due to become a free agent at the end of the season, and so too is 33-year-old Michael Keane.

There are no wrong answers here! They have all been sensational this season 🔥

But which two are you starting if you're Moyes? 🤷‍♂️

Seamus Coleman, 37, is also expected to leave after an admirable 17-year career with the Merseysiders.

So, Everton will be a much younger group next season, unless Moyes decides to bring in some more experienced heads.

That would probably be wise, especially if his side manage to qualify for a European competition, which looks achievable at this stage.
