The two reasons West Ham trumped Everton to signing Evan Ferguson on loan from Brighton

Everton are looking to land some new players before the transfer deadline – but Evan Ferguson will not be heading to Goodison Park.

There are positive vibes once again around Everton this weekend, after the club beat Leicester City 4-0 in the Premier League.

The Toffees made in three wins on the spin in the top-flight under David Moyes, putting the Foxes to the sword at Goodison Park.

Beto scored a brace, and there were also goals for Abdoulaye Doucoure and Iliman Ndiaye, and the result has sent Everton 10 points clear of the relegation zone.

Attention will now turn back to the transfer market, and Everton are potentially in for a busy finish to the window.

Everton have been looking to make two signings in January.

And the first player through the door is likely to be Carlos Alcaraz, who has agreed a deal to join Everton on loan.

But one player who won’t be coming is Evan Ferguson.

Both Everton and West Ham have been keen to sign Ferguson this month, but the Brighton man is now all set to join the Irons.

Everton have been in the market for another striker after the injuries to Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Armando Broja, and Ferguson was on their radar.

But this morning, it’s being widely reported West Ham have won the race for the Republic of Ireland international striker. Ferguson will reportedly have his West Ham medical today.

Journalist Alex Crook has offered a couple of key reasons why the player has chosen that particular move over Everton.

He says on X: “Ferguson deal done between #BHAFC and #WHUFC and in his way for a medical. Hammers always had a strong position due to Potter link and guarantee of minutes.”

Ferguson only made five appearances under Potter at Brighton.

But despite that, Ferguson felt compelled to link back up with his old boss.

And given what happened with Michail Antonio recently, and the fact Niclas Fullkrug hasn’t delivered, one would imagine Ferguson will be a starter there.

Beto can save Moyes and The Friedkin Group money

So after all the speculation, Ferguson will not join Everton and instead link up with Potter at West Ham.

It certainly would have been interesting if The Friedkin Group had appointed Potter instead of Moyes if Ferguson would still have gone to West Ham.

Seemingly, Potter was a big factor in Ferguson going to West Ham.

But Moyes and TFG may well find that Beto – who scored a brace yesterday – could be the answer for Everton after all.

He was brilliant against Leicester and although his goal record isn’t great at Everton, Moyes might just be willing to put faith in him while Calvert-Lewin and Broja are injured.

If he stays, of course. Because Torino were thought to be considering a late bid for Beto.
