Thomas Gravesen is a big admirer of latest Everton transfer target, ‘captain of calibre’

Everton will look to bolster their squad this summer – and former Toffees midfielder Thomas Gravesen is on record as praising one of the club’s newest targets.

Fans are hoping to see a summer of purpose and productivity after the dreadful way in which the club ended the 2025/26 campaign.

How would you feel about Hayden Hackney becoming Everton’s first signing? 🤩

David Moyes has come under pressure now, and needs a squad that will carry him to a much better result than in 2025/26.

It would seem a new midfielder is on the agenda for Everton.

At the moment, Hayden Hackney appears to be one of Everton’s top targets.

But the club are also interested in Morten Hjulmand as a potential alternative – and he’s a player Thomas Gravesen is a fan of.

Thomas Gravesen wanted Everton target Morten Hjulmand to sign for Tottenham

It was claimed earlier this week that Everton were keeping tabs on Sporting CP captain Hjulmand.

The Denmark international is valued at about £35 million and is set to leave the Portuguese giants this summer.

Atletico Madrid are also in the race, and they would currently be his preference over Everton.

But if nothing materialises with Hackney, then maybe we’ll see Everton shift their focus and try to convince Hjulmand to make a move to Hill Dickinson.

And that would likely please former Toffees midfielder Thomas Gravesen, who sang his praises last year and actually urged him to join Tottenham Hotspur, who were being managed by fellow Dane Thomas Frank at the time.

He told Viaplay (via Tipsbladet): “There is no doubt at all that he is going to the Premier League in a hurry, and if he can get under Thomas Frank – well, hold on.

“He is a captain of calibre. Now Frank has played with Christian Nørgaard for a long time, and Morten Hjulmand is a younger and better version.

“Therefore, I think that Morten Hjulmand should be Thomas Frank’s first massive purchase.”

Of course, Hjulmand never made a move to Spurs, and instead stayed at Sporting.

If you were Angus Kinnear who would you be going all out for this summer? 💰

But he is likely to be on the move this summer, and it’ll be interesting to see if Everton get involved.

Seemingly though, Hackney is the top choice for a new midfielder and with the player wanting to join, The Friedkin Group could do with making that one happen.

It wouldn’t be such a good look for the owners if they fail from here, as much as Hjulmand could be a good alternative.
