Everton will be looking to enjoy a productive summer, but Tim Howard reckons the club will fail to land one target in particular.

Everton have enjoyed a great 2025 so far, with the appointment of David Moyes back in January saving the club’s skin.

Moyes replaced Sean Dyche, and has guided the Toffees to safety with weeks to spare – something that did not feel possible around December time.

Planning is already underway ahead of next season.

The Friedkin Group have a have a lot of work to do this summer with so many players being set to leave. Alan Shearer reacted with concern seeing how many players are primed to leave Everton, and undoubtedly the new owners will be busy.

But fans are excited to see what happens – especially on the incomings front.

And one man Everton like is Liam Delap, who came to Goodison Park this weekend with Ipswich Town.

Delap is on Everton’s radar, but he is also coveted by a strong of other clubs, including Manchester United and Chelsea.

With a £30 million release clause, it’s little wonder Delap is so coveted.

For Ipswich this season he’s scored 12 goals in 37 appearances, making him undoubtedly one of the country’s best young English strikers.

Everton are keen, but for former Toffees goalkeeper Tim Howard, fans should not get their hopes up for a summer swoop.

He said on NBC Sports: “I just think the stakes are too big.

“There’s going to be some big clubs after him. If you’re him, he’s already been at a big club. He understands what that feels and tastes like at City.

“He’s going to want to prove his worth, that he can play at the top.

“Honestly, I think Chelsea are desperate for a striker. The Man United pull, and people who have lived in England… I think for a player like him, it’s still there.

“I like the Chelsea profile, I like the young team. He goes into a young team, there’s goals there.”

There are actually several reasons why Delap might consider signing for Everton this summer.

However, it will still be a tall order for the Toffees to get someone as in demand as this – especially with other clubs likely to offer much bigger wages.

Everton really need a new striker this summer given it’s increasingly likely that neither Armando Broja nor Dominic Calvert-Lewin will be here next season.

He’d be a brilliant addition – Everton fans called for Delap to be signed after watching him in action on Saturday.

It would be statement signing by Everton, but perhaps one that fans ought not to get their hopes up over.
