Everton are not going to have Wayne Rooney’s backing if they do make a move for Ivan Toney.

A new striker is on the radar for Everton this summer as David Moyes demands more quality in the attacking positions.

Neither Beto nor Thierno Barry managed to reach double figures in front of goal for Everton in the 2025/26 Premier League campaign.

Rank these striker options from best to worst… 😬

Everton are keen on Toney, but their former academy graduate, Rooney, is seemingly not a fan of the England international.

Wayne Rooney does not approve of Everton’s interest in Ivan Toney

Ironically, Tony Bellew hopes Everton do sign Toney over the summer, as he feels the striker could elevate the Blues towards the European spots.

Speaking to SPORF, Rooney shared his honest thoughts on Toney when blind ranking five England strikers.

Having placed Dominic Solanke fifth and Dominic Calvert-Lewin fourth, Rooney was then given Toney as an option.

If you were Angus Kinnear who would you be going all out for this summer? 💰

“I don’t know. I wouldn’t have him in the five. So, I’ll have to put him as three,” Rooney said.

Toney has been called up to Thomas Tuchel’s England squad despite spending the last couple of years over in Saudi Arabia.

Taking to TalkingPoints, there are a lot of Everton fans who want to see Toney signed given the experience he has in the Premier League.

Spending two years playing in the Saudi Pro League will naturally raise concerns over Toney’s levels and whether they have dipped.

To his credit, Toney scored 42 goals across all competitions in the 2025/26 campaign for Al-Ahli.

Perhaps Toney’s decision to move away from the top European leagues has not sat well with Rooney, who admitted he was even rating him below the likes of Calvert-Lewin, in hindsight.

Toney has not ruled out a return to the Premier League, but the Blues have been warned by one of their former players over a potential swoop for the striker.
