Everton paid Torino £30m for Beto during the 2023 summer transfer window.
Beto impressed in Serie A and earned a mega-money move to Everton, however, his career on Merseyside didn’t get off to a good start.
The towering centre-forward netted just three league goals in his debut season, and it was a similar tale this year until David Moyes replaced Sean Dyche.
Moyes has been able to get a tune out of Beto, so much so that Leeds United are now showing an interest in signing him in the summer.
It was only this time last year that Farhad Moshiri had a phone call with Duncan Ferguson, concerned about his expensive recruit.

What Duncan Ferguson told Farhad Moshiri about Everton striker Beto
Duncan Ferguson revealed in his newly-released book that Farhad Moshiri phoned him last year asking for his thoughts on Beto, who at that point was really struggling and couldn’t get into the team.
“In April 2024, Farhad Moshiri phoned me. ‘What do you think of Beto’, he asked. I’m not too sure Farhad, I replied.
“I haven’t seen a lot of him, because he’s not been playing many games, the manager mustn’t fancy him.
“Beto’s profile does suit a traditional number nine at Everton, but at the moment, it looks like he’s struggling. It does take time to adjust to the Premier League. I hope and pray it’s not another expensive recruitment mistake.
“Time will tell, but to be honest, I’m not sure if he’ll cut it. I got on well with Farhad, I like him.”
Beto coming into his own
A year ago, as Ferguson suggested, it didn’t look like Beto was going to cut it at Everton and a sale looked inevitable.
However, the former Udinese striker has now scored double figures this season, which is a commendable feat.
Moyes has been really impressed with Beto’s desire to learn and improve.
“He’s a great boy, I’ve got to say,” the Everton boss said. “He practises like you wouldn’t believe to try and get better. Which, when you’ve got that, you know then that you’ve got something which is… at least he’s trying to get better.
“He’s incredibly humble. He’s very honest with himself, which gives a manager a great chance to try and improve. I have to say, he’s done great.”
Beto is aware he could be sold this summer, but judging by his character, it seems he’s eager to prove himself at Everton.
