The hot topic around Everton on Thursday is the reported interest in Manchester City defender Nathan Ake.

David Moyes will be keen to see more new faces land at Finch Farm over the coming days, on the back of the opening game of the season.

Everton have made some improvements to their attacking options in recent weeks, but injuries to the defence have depleted Moyes’ squad.

It has been suggested that Everton are keen to sign Ake from Man City, with Pep Guardiola looking to trim down his side.

There are still a number of other positions which need to be added to at Finch Farm before the deadline on 1 September.

And there has been a fresh update on the reported interest being shown in Ake.

Everton interest in Nathan Ake played down

Having heard the news on Wednesday evening, a lot of Everton fans were excited by the Ake interest, but that excitement may already be set to end.

After injuries to the likes of Jarrad Branthwaite and Vitaliy Mykolenko, there is a necessity for Everton to add to their defence.

However, BBC Sport journalist Giulia Bould has now claimed there is no interest from Everton being shown in the 30-year-old City defender.

‘It is my understanding Everton remain focused on securing a right winger and a right back this summer,’ she said on X.

‘Work is ongoing to secure players before deadline day. I also understand Nathan Ake is not a target.’

Everton have seen Nathan Patterson return to training, but his long list of injury issues clearly has the Blues eyeing further depth at the right-back position.

This will come as a real sucker punch to some fans who will have been hoping to see Ake follow Grealish to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Everton have bigger needs than a new centre-back

With Branthwaite set to miss weeks through injury, it would be understandable why some fans will want to see another centre-back signed.

However, by adding a new right-back, Everton could then push Jake O’Brien back into his more natural position in the middle.

This is an area which the Blues have been keen to address all summer.

Everton narrowly missed out on signing Kenny Tete, with Fulham securing the right-back to a new deal at the last minute.

Adding to that, the Everton manager will be keen to see a right winger signed, given Moyes has demanded a new winger for months.
