Everton are seriously pursuing a move for Douglas Luiz this summer as the midfielder could revolutionise David Moyes’ side.

It wasn’t expected this summer, but Luiz is a key target for the Toffees, as The Friedkin Group could take everyone by surprise.

After a torrid time with Juventus, the Brazilian could be front and centre of Everton’s new-look project, and Moyes is all for it.

Everton have submitted their opening offer for Luiz as the 27-year-old could formulate his return to the Premier League.

With club-to-club talks seemingly underway, the negotiations start, and Juventus have made something very clear to Everton.

Juventus’ talks with Everton about Douglas Luiz

Luiz’s signature would show the real intent of this new regime at Everton.

Moyes knows all too well about the midfielder who performed excellently in front of the Scotsman at times during his time in the Premier League.

Everton are getting serious about Luiz, and this isn’t just some random link, as there is a very high possibility the Brazilian could be playing in the royal blue of the Toffees at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Well, a credible source in the form of Italian journalist Gianni Balzarini has revealed what Juventus are demanding from Everton, and have made it very clear that the former Villa star will be leaving Turin.

“So we talked about the exit options. There’s Douglas Luiz, who Everton are acting quite seriously for,” Balzarini said.

“Juve want to make £35m. A guarantee of £9m plus £26m. Everton are currently reaching £26m overall. I think an agreement will be reached there too.

“Everyone has their own opinion, for some he’s very strong, for others he’s a dud, you see how in football there are a wide variety of opinions, one diametrically opposed to the other, so everyone has their own opinion, but Douglas Luiz is officially on his way out.”

Target Luiz might have given reason to join a club like Everton

With it seemingly looking like the Toffees are leading the race, a £35m fee for the midfielder still looks like a bargain.

There’s no denying he’s struggled in Italy, but his time in the Premier League explained how crucial he was to Unai Emery’s side.

Luiz has the Pep Guardiola approval, and he can slot perfectly in Moyes’ possession-based set-up, complementing Idrissa Gana Gueye beautifully.

When he joined Juventus, he made something very clear about why he chose to leave the Premier League.

Speaking to the print edition of Tuttosport (07/08/24) after his exit from Villa Park, Luiz might have hinted at why he could join Everton, as the same reason applies to his Juventus move.

“Why did I leave the Premier League? Any player in the world would have wanted to have an experience at Juventus. I am no different,” Luiz said.

“It doesn’t depend so much on the league, but rather on the size of the club.”

With Everton being one of the bigger clubs in the race for the Brazilian, he might feel as though not only the Toffees’ history shines through, but also this new project with The Friedkins.

It’s been obvious from the get-go that Luiz prefers the Premier League, and the stars could be finally aligning, and all Everton have to do is pay an extra £10m.
