Everton are set for their final Merseyside Derby at Goodison Park on Wednesday night against Liverpool.

David Moyes will be hoping to see his side provide an immediate reaction following their FA Cup defeat on the weekend.

But it will be a naturally difficult game on Wednesday with the Reds sitting top of the Premier League table.

Everton’s recent record in the Premier League has been impressive win three consecutive victories under the 61-year-old.

There is some positive news for the Toffees going into the game on Wednesday with Everton seeing Vitaliy Mykolenko return to training.

However, there is something else which Arne Slot has already been warned about going to Goodison Park on Wednesday.

Arne Slot warned about Everton’s Goodison Park atmosphere

Virgil van Dijk previously issued a warning to Everton fans following their mockery of Liverpool’s title hopes in the past.

But it seems their new manager has provided a much greater show of respect to the Toffees ahead of the game.

Speaking in his press conference on Tuesday morning, the Dutchman shared what he has been warned about the Goodison Park atmosphere.

“I think it’s an extra reason why the atmosphere will probably be even better than all the occasions before,” he said.

“I haven’t been to one, but people tell me at Goodison Park – as at Anfield – it’s always a fantastic atmosphere. Home supporters are there to support their team and the away fans are mostly loud, as well.

“It’s probably going to be a fantastic atmosphere and it is never easy to play against because every single time they cross the halfway line or get a corner kick, their fans will cheer for that.”

Jamie Carragher says Everton could derail Liverpool’s title hopes with a victory over the Reds on Wednesday night.

But securing bragging rights of the final ever Merseyside Derby will probably mean a lot more to the fans with the stadium move set for the summer.

Arne Slot is expecting a special occasion at Goodison Park

This will be the first and last time which Slot will get to experience a Merseyside Derby at Goodison Park.

And the Dutchman made it clear on Tuesday that he is excited to experience the atmosphere first hand.

“I think it is going to be special for everyone involved, the fans, players, managers,” he added.

“To be involved in this game is special and the last one at Goodison is even more. Only nice when you have the result though so that is what we’re focusing on.”

Liverpool are also coming into the game on the back of a frustrating defeat in the FA Cup, but Everton will be all out not to lose the final derby on home soil.
