Everton will need to recruit a striker by the end of January otherwise David Moyes faces a real issue for the rest of the Premier League season.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s setback is yet to be revealed, but the Toffees will be in dire need of another striking option this window.

Moyes stated Calvert-Lewin has a hamstring issue which could see the 27-year-old kept out from playing for weeks on end.

It’s a shame for the striker who was just hitting his stride this season after scoring against Tottenham, as Tony Cascarino labelled him as ‘unplayable’.

Someone who has been mooted for a move to Everton is Evan Ferguson, as the striker’s preferred destination has been revealed.

Where Everton stand in the Evan Ferguson race as destination shared

The striker is in high demand as Everton are racing Premier League clubs for Ferguson.

In what is a developing prospect, Marseille are now interested in Ferguson as the 20-year-old’s future is set to go down to the wire this winter.

However, Everton’s position in the race has been revealed by reliable journalist, David Ornstein, via The Athletic.

According to Ornstein, there is interest from the likes of West Ham, Bournemouth, and a host of other Premier League clubs as aforementioned.

Everton are keen, given the injury to Calvert-Lewin and Armando Broja who is also sidelined, but the Toffees are ‘not thought to be among the favourites’.

Ferguson himself is currently returning from injury as clubs in Germany are also interested.

A Premier League move is looking the ‘most likely’ but nothing is set in stone, given the vast amount of interest in Ferguson.

Everton might dodge a bullet with Ferguson deal after injuries

Despite Calvert-Lewin and Broja’s setback, Ferguson may not be the best example when it comes to signing a reliable no.9.

The Friedkin Group want a striker for Everton and they might need to assess other options, but Everton not being favourites for Ferguson may be a silver lining.

The Brighton striker hasn’t exactly had the blessing of staying fit in his early career which isn’t what Everton need.

Evan Ferguson’s injury history at Brighton
24/25Ankle problems – Days missed: 35 (currently)
23/24Ankle injury – Days missed: 147
23/24Knee injury – Days missed: 19

The Toffees need a reliable frontman, no doubt Ferguson would score goals, but staying fit and available is another problem.
