Why Everton may struggle to attract their summer transfer targets

The summer transfer window is fast-approaching, and Everton have been drawing up a shortlist of targets.

David Moyes is intent on signing a new striker, as Thierno Barry and Beto clearly aren’t up to standards, despite their numbers improving recently.

Chelsea’s Liam Delap has been heavily linked to the Hill Dickinson Stadium, as has AZ Alkmaar’s Troy Parrott.

Everton are also showing great ambition as they want Mateus Fernandes from West Ham United, who is valued at between £50-80m.

However, the Toffees could massively struggle to attract many of their transfer targets for one key reason.

Everton targets may think twice about playing under David Moyes

The brutal reality Everton are facing this summer is whether targets will now think twice about signing for Moyes.

The Toffees manager has a really poor record of integrating his new recruits into the starting line-up and even into the squad.

Indeed, the most notable example is Tyler Dibling, who joined with a shining reputation from Southampton last year.

Dibling had interest from Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa, to name only a few, but he joined the Toffees in a £40m deal.

The England under-21 international felt playing under Moyes would be great for his development; however, that has not been the case at all.

Dibling has started just four Premier League games all season and has played only one minute of football since January.

Adam Aznou, who was exceptional for Real Valladolid in La Liga last term, hasn’t even made his Premier League debut yet.

Carlos Alcaraz, another 2025 summer recruit, has started just six league games, and there are many more examples, too.

It’s become very clear that Moyes places most of his trust in the experienced old guard, so Everton’s transfer targets will be aware of the risk in signing for the Scotsman.
