The Man City defeat seemed like a slight setback for Everton and David Moyes as problems have begun to emerge.
Goodison Park has unfortunately seen its first loss since Moyes’ first Premier League outing vs Aston Villa.
Pep Guardiola’s City secured the three points, although not entirely deserved, as Moyes was disappointed with Carlos Alcaraz, who started off their win after a mistake.
The Scotsman only has five more games to experiment as the season goes on, and he will want a plan going into an important campaign for Everton.
However, if one problem stays the same after City, the Toffees could be in for all sorts of trouble.

David Moyes has James Tarkowski problem at Everton
It was a frustrating afternoon all around, but no more than seeing James Tarkowski get injured.
The centre-back seems to have reignited a recurring hamstring issue, as Moyes will no doubt assess the situation as the weeks go on.
Tarkowski’s injury lead to Michael Keane coming on which didn’t bode well as Everton fans slammed Keane’s display.
The criticism was fair as Keane didn’t do enough for City’s first, which ultimately lead to Mateo Kovacic wrapping up the game.
This brought an alarming statistic, as Moyes now has a problem judging by what happened when Tarkowski came off.
| Everton compared to Tarkowski being on and Tarkowski being off | ||
| Tarkowski ON | Tarkowski OFF | |
| Man City shots | 3 | 9 |
| Expected goals (xG) | 0.2 | 1.9 |
| Goals conceded | 0 | 2 |
This exemplifies the problem Moyes has, as the 32-year-old being a consistent starter is clear to see.
Tarkowski has started every game this season, but now Moyes has a choice to make to fill the void.
Moyes can now keep promise to one Everton player after Tarkowski injury
It’s clear that Keane isn’t the way to go after Saturday’s display.
The 32-year-old proved to be a calamity and showed why he’s only seen 11 Premier League games this season.
Now with Tarkowski not available, Jarrad Branthwaite will need a suitable partner, and who better than the in-form Jake O’Brien.
O’Brien has been a make-shift right-back under the Toffees boss, but Moyes promised O’Brien the centre-back spot and can start with that promise against Chelsea.

With Nathan Patterson regaining fitness, he’ll be able to fill the right-back role in what seems like a no-brainer for Moyes in Tarkowski’s absence.
