Dominic Calvert-Lewin was criticised by Everton fans on Wednesday night for his display against Aston Villa.

The Friedkin Group want to add a new forward to the squad this month, with retaining their Premier League status the main target.

And it seems as if Moyes thinks there is one striker who Everton may regret passing up on the chance to sign in 2023.

Everton boss David Moyes hails Nottingham Forest’s Chris Wood

Everton are really struggling when it comes to finding the back of the net this season.

Moyes angered Beto after not starting him against Villa on Wednesday night as he eyes a move away from Merseyside.

A new option is needed for Everton this month and Moyes highlighted Nottingham Forest’s Chris Wood as a fine example of a Premier League striker.

‘A real risk early on to get them in and hope they might develop into the real deal. To go and buy them, with all due respects to the rejuvenation of Chris Wood for example – there wouldn’t have been many people who saw that coming,” he said in Friday’s press conference.

At one point it looked like he wasn’t getting a game for Nottingham Forest. He’s got a chance, the team has shown up and it has got much better. I think there is a big shortage of No 9s.’

The Toffees are eyeing attacking additions with Everton confident of signing Ernest Nuamah from John Textor’s Lyon.

However, that will not address their striker options, but it could offer the likes of Calvert-Lewin with greater service from the wide positions.

Farhad Moshiri snubbed signing Chris Wood for Everton

With Moyes praising the form of the New Zealand international, it only highlights Farhad Moshiri’s decision back in 2023 not to sign Wood.

According to the Daily Express, Newcastle offered the Toffees the chance to take Wood in their deal to bring Anthony Gordon to Tyneside.

But Moshiri passed on the offer and Everton are now seeing the striker having netted 13 goals this season in the league alone.

With Calvert-Lewin’s Everton future uncertain, and injuries elsewhere, this is a decision which is coming back to haunt the Toffees.
