Chris Rigg reacts to Everton transfer speculation with ‘amazing’ Jordan Pickford claim

Everton are one of the clubs being linked with a move for Sunderland’s Chris Rigg.

An exciting summer awaits Everton who will be led into the market for the first time by the Friedkins since their takeover was completed.

The January window was approached with plenty of caution as Kevin Thelwell avoided any further PSR scares at Everton.

David Moyes will be keen to put his stamp on the squad of players which he inherited from Sean Dyche earlier this year.

Ahead of the summer, Everton are showing an interest in Rigg among a host of Europe’s top clubs.

With the Black Cats now heading for the Championship Play-Offs this weekend, the youngster has spoken about his future on Wearside.

Sunderland manager Regis Le Bris has commented on Rigg’s future with the Black Cats amid the talk of a Premier League move.

The Hebburn-born Sunderland academy product will have his eyes on securing promotion, but the speculation will remain.

Speaking to Luke Edwards, Rigg has shared his very honest thoughts on a potential move to the likes of Everton this summer.

“I don’t listen to any of the speculation. I’ve got far more important things to worry about, like trying to get Sunderland promoted,” he said.

However, what he said next will certainly come across as more promising for Everton fans as he hailed the career move for Pickford from Sunderland.

“Then you have Jordan Pickford, too, lots of players have started at Sunderland and gone on to have amazing careers,” Rigg added.

“They are an example for me to follow, just as I hope I can be a role model to the kids who are coming through the academy now.”

Everton are looking to sign a new midfielder over the coming months with numerous potentially leaving at the end of their deals.

Rigg has established himself as a regular in the Sunderland side and will be left with a big decision if Sunderland do not secure promotion.

Rigg has big aspirations for his future

There are some seriously big clubs with the youngster on their radar going into the summer.

Manchester United want to sign Rigg, but they may also be up against it in the race to secure the star’s signature.

Having had a real taste for first-team football at the Stadium of Light, Rigg has provided insight in the huge aspirations he has for his future.

“I’ve got a lot of hard work ahead of me, especially if I’m going to get where I want to be. I want to get to the very top. I’ve not achieved anything in the game.

“The first thing is to try and get promoted. If we can win the play-offs, yeah I can say I’ve achieved something. I want to play for my country, I want to win things. I want to play in the Premier League for Sunderland, that has always been the dream.”

That final line is what a lot of the interested clubs will be concerned about.

If Sunderland are to secure Premier League football, then it is going to prove extremely difficult to prise Rigg away from Wearside this summer.
