Everton were forced to play without Jake O’Brien on Saturday in their victory over Fulham.
David Moyes had to adapt his starting XI following an unexpected injury blow handed to the Toffees over the last 24 hours.
It was Everton’s first victory since beating Nottingham Forest at the City Ground last month.
Just two more games await the Toffees before they can bring an end to the 2024/25 campaign which has plagued the squad with injuries.
James Tarkowski will return for pre-season after he was forced to miss the remainder of the campaign with a hamstring injury against Manchester City.
Much to the frustration of all at FInch Farm, O’Brien picked up his own issue during the week which kept him out of the trip to London.
After the game, Moyes shared an update on the severity of the Ireland international’s issue.

David Moyes shares Jake O’Brien injury update from Everton
O’Brien has been widely praised for his performances in an Everton shirt since Moyes took over in January.
Considering he barely played up until January, the Irishman has slotted in like a natural into the spot at right-back.
Speaking after the game, Moyes shared the extent of the 23-year-old’s injury.
“I don’t think it’s that bad. He rocked his knee a little bit,” said the Scot.
“We only found out about it on Friday, so it was a late call. We’ll see how it goes through the week.”
Everton have big plans for Goodison Park’s Finale next weekend after the game against Southampton and O’Brien will certainly want to be a part of that.
But the Blues will not be looking to take any unnecessary risks with nothing other than pride to play for in the remaining two games.
Michael Keane impressed during O’Brien’s absence
Just a few of weeks ago, Michael Keane was slammed for his Manchester City cameo after replacing Tarkowski.
Fast forward to after the Fulham victory and the centre-back is the Everton hero.
Moyes was so impressed by Keane after the defender even got his name on the score sheet at Craven Cottage.
Considering the veteran likely has just two games remaining in his Everton career, this is certainly a game which he will remember fondly.
With O’Brien needing to be monitored, it would not be a surprise to see Keane keep his place for the game against Southampton.
