Everton are still a long way from getting to Liverpool’s level, but David Moyes will be thrilled after an early transfer.
Moyes knows all about the rivalry with the red side of Merseyside and will be hoping he can disrupt any title charge next season.
After last season’s meetings, the tension is only rising, as that James Tarkowski goal will be talked about for years around Everton.
Virgil van Dijk said Liverpool are Everton’s ‘cup final’, but the Liverpool players will no doubt scan for the Derby as their first thought when they saw the fixture list.

A bit of patience is needed for the first meeting in September, but Moyes has already got one over Arne Slot’s side by the looks of things.

Everton get one over Liverpool with Thierno Barry transfer
As Everton welcome their new number nine, Thierno Barry, the Frenchman is hoping for an immediate impact under Moyes.
His £27m arrival has been met with glowing reviews, with Everton fans liking Barry’s aerial presence.
This is certainly something that Moyes would have looked at before signing the striker, who has the chance to prove himself on the Premier League stage.
Well, with Everton wrapping up their striker, it appears Liverpool are about to do the same, as Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike could sign in a £70m deal, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Frankfurt want more, so it could likely reach the £80m mark, but when comparing Liverpool’s new Frenchman to Everton’s, it proves that the Toffees might have actually got a better deal.
| Thierno Barry | Hugo Ekitike | |
| Fee | £27m | £70m* |
| Age | 22 | 23 |
| Games played | 131 | 151 |
| Goals | 61 | 50 |
| Assists | 16 | 25 |
The vast difference in fee stands out here, as not only does Barry have more goals, but he’s a younger option, and for once, Everton might have shown up their bitter rivals.

Everton actually wanted Ekitike before Liverpool did
With Liverpool potentially paying over the odds and Everton securing a brilliant deal, it’s clear that the Blues could have also gotten a cut-price fee for Ekitike.
Barry is expected to be Everton’s long-term solution to their goalscoring problems, but Sean Dyche tried to solve this much earlier through Ekitike.
Fabrizio Romano revealed to GIVEMESPORT in 2023 that Everton were looking to strike a £30m deal for the 23-year-old, £50m less than what Slot’s side are paying today.
It seems as though Everton were ahead of the curve, but now looking back, it’s clear that Barry’s signing could be the better value for money.
We will truly see the results next season, but for now, Everton have certainly got one up on Liverpool.
