Everton are trying make Lyon winger Ernest Nuamah their first signing of the January window.
David Moyes will be wanting to see his players bounce back from their midweek defeat when they take on Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
It is a game which could drag Everton away from the bottom three and pull them to within just four points of Spurs.
However, Moyes is pushing for Everton to make some signings this month as they sit so close to the relegation zone.
The addition of some attacking players could prove crucial to the Toffees staying in the top flight for next season.
And there has been an interesting development to unfold involving Nuamah over recent hours.

Everton target Ernest Nuamah included in Lyon squad
Whilst speaking to the media on Friday, Moyes admitted Nuamah is a player on Everton’s radar this month.
Just a matter of hours later, there has been a development which may not please those on Merseyside.
Nuamah has been included in Lyon’s matchday squad for their game on Saturday against Toulouse.
The Ligue 1 side’s official X account shared their list of players who would be featuring in the game at the Groupama Stadium.
This may well suggest a deal for the 21-year-old is not quite that close to being completed.
Everton are confident of signing Nuamah this month after holding positive talks with the player’s camp and Lyon.
The Toffees will just be hoping if Nuamah is to feature in the game he does not pick up any injury issues which could hinder their interest.
Nuamah could provide Everton upgrade on Jack Harrison
With no goals and no assists this term, Jack Harrison must regret his pre-season targets for the 2024/25 campaign.
Nuamah has not exactly been prolific himself this term for Lyon having also failed to find the back of the net.
| 2024/25 | Jack Harrison | Ernest Nuamah |
|---|---|---|
| Shot-creating actions (per 90) | 2.07 | 3.75 |
| Take-on success rate | 28.9% | 38.9% |
| Progressive yards (per 90) | 57.7 | 138.4 |
| Aerial duels won | 21.4% | 50% |
Kevin Thelwell is desperate for Everton to sign Nuamah before the end of the window.
And adding attacking reinforcements is exactly what the Toffees are going to need if they are to stay up.
Everton’s defence has not been an issue at all, but finding the back of the net really has been a struggle for the Blues.
