Everton did struggle to land a number of their summer targets and David Moyes made that known during pre-season.

Despite ending the window pleased with Everton’s transfer business, the 62-year-old manager admitted there were some players he missed out on.

Everton failed to convince Malick Fofana among some other players who were on the radar for the recruitment team on Merseyside.

The January transfer window is going to hand the Blues with another opportunity to bolster their squad as Moyes eyes even more improvement.

Injuries have certainly hit Everton of late and players like Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall are proving a huge miss for the Blues.

However, there is a player who Everton eyed over the summer in his position that they dodged a bullet on.

Everton avoid James McAtee summer disaster

Among a host of other clubs, Everton were keen to sign James McAtee from Manchester City over the summer window.

In the end, the youngster made the move to Nottingham Forest with the Reds able to boast Europa League football.

Fast forward to the present date and, according to Fabrizio Romano, McAtee could already be set to leave Forest after a difficult start to life at the City Ground.

RC Strasbourg are believed to be keen on landing the Englishman in the January window as initial talks have now taken place.

It is believed those talks have centred around trying to sell the project in Ligue 1 to the midfielder who has only made one start this season and totalled 149 minutes.

Everton even held talks with McAtee and his camp over the summer as they presented him with a potential landing spot.

Perhaps the 23-year-old may already be regretting his move to the City Ground.

Everton hit a strike with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall

Dewsbury-Hall remains sidelined through a hamstring injury which he suffered against Chelsea earlier in the month.

Injury aside, the 27-year-old has proven an absolute masterclass of a signing from The Friedkin Group so far.

Alan Stubbs has been so impressed with Dewsbury-Hall with the midfielder showing his all-round game over the opening half of the season.

Given the way the two players have moved this season, it is apparent the Friedkins made the right decision over the summer to sign Dewsbury-Hall.
