Everton have a number of positions which could do with adding to this week.

There has been a lot of change around Everton over the last five weeks or so with new owners and a new manager.

David Moyes has returned to Goodison Park but he has now shied away from expressing his desire to see winter signings made.

Moyes would like at least two signings at Everton before the deadline next week.

With time running out, the need for new faces continues to grow on Merseyside with further injuries sustained over the weekend.

One of those injuries was to midfielder Orel Mangala in a position which has been riddled with issues all season.

Everton eyeing Newcastle United’s Sean Longstaff

Mangala could be set for a period on the sidelines after he was withdrawn from the game on the weekend against Brighton & Hove Albion.

Moyes has shared his concern over Mangala’s injury which will be a real issue for the Toffees.

According to The Athletic, Everton do hold a long-standing interest in the Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff.

A number of clubs are believed to have registered their interest in Longstaff this summer, but no official bids have been lodged.

There has been some positive news for Everton concerning their midfield options.

Tim Iroegbunam has returned from injury and James Garner featured in the matchday squad on the weekend against Brighton.

But Everton’s injury luck this season may well lead them towards finding further reinforcement.

Manchester United bid £50m for Longstaff in 2019

Everton did show interest in Longstaff ahead of the winter window opening as they checked in on his availability.

The Friedkins are keen to sign a new midfielder before the end of the window.

Everton’s potential swoop in the last week of this winter market comes just a matter of years on from Manchester United’s interest.

The 27-year-old has just over one year remaining on his contract at Newcastle.

According to ESPN, Man United were quoted a whopping £50m for Longstaff and now Everton could possibly land themselves a relative bargain in that sense.

But whether Newcastle would be open to a mid-season sale is another question.
