Everton fans have shared their displeasure at recent comments from Thomas Tuchel regarding Jordan Pickford, jeopardising his future with the Three Lions.

The 31-year-old has been England’s first-choice goalkeeper since 2017, the same year he joined the Toffees for £30m.

Jordan Pickford helped England to a World Cup semi-final and two European Championship finals, but it now looks like he could be forced to step aside for someone else after head coach Thomas Tuchel said it would be “ideal” to have his goalkeepers playing in Europe.

In the 2024/25 season, Pickford kept 12 Premier League clean sheets for Everton; only two goalkeepers put up better numbers than him. His exceptional form caused Jamie Carragher to name him as Everton’s Player of the Season.

Even the Everton fans realise how much of an influence the Sunderland-born shot-stopper has had at the club. Many fans believe Everton would not be in the Premier League without Pickford, he is simply that important to their progress.

With Pickford’s future with the England national team in doubt, Everton fans have swarmed to social media to share their opinions on the matter.

Everton fans are livid at Thomas Tuchel’s comments on Jordan Pickford

Since making his debut in 2017, Pickford has made 76 appearances for the Three Lions after his start in England’s game against Andorra on Saturday evening.

Pickford loves working with Moyes, but that may mean nothing to Tuchel, who is seemingly willing to move him aside in favour of a goalkeeper who plays in Europe.

After hearing Tuchel’s comments, Everton fans have shared their feelings on the social media platform X.

“Not competing in Europe for the last 5 years has really hindered Pickford’s performances,” said one fan, while another added: “Has he said that to cover himself for not picking Branthwaite again why oh why has Tuchel left him out the mind boggles.”

This Everton fan highlighted Ivan Toney and Jordan Henderson’s inclusion, saying: “But playing in Saudi or the Dutch league for outfield players is fine?”

“Got a feeling Tuchel won’t last long – unbelievable bias to his ex-Chelsea players, also suggesting only players playing in European football competitions should be picked is ridiculous. There are lots of decent players who have and will be overlooked.” said this fuming Everton fan.

Another fan added: “So playing against Djurgarden away in the conference league makes all the difference when preparing for a World Cup?”

Finally, this Everton fan said: “That bloke’s an idiot, what difference does it make? I thought the best strikers in the world were in the Premiership? If that’s the case Pickford faces them every week.”

Jordan Pickford wants a new contract at Everton

A perennial point-saver for the club, Everton fans cannot overstate how much of an influence Pickford has been for the club. It will be a very tough task to replace him once he goes, but that does not seem like it will happen for a while.

Reports in May stated that Pickford is eager to have his Everton contract extended. The belief is that he wants to see the remainder of his career out on Merseyside, having only just entered his prime.

With Pickford and Moyes having a great relationship, which goes back to before they were both at Everton, negotiations will undoubtedly be short and should come to a good conclusion for both parties.

Pickford’s current deal runs out in 2027, but the 31-year-old is eager to stay with the Toffees for much, much longer.
