Everton are yet to sign any players this month – but fans are hoping there will soon be movement following the arrival of David Moyes.
It was a big week for Everton last week, with Sean Dyche finally being sacked.
Dyche left his post on Thursday just hours before the FA Cup game with Peterborough United.
The timing of the announcement was a surprise, but details of Dyche’s final days in charge have been emerging and it seems it was a decision The Friedkin Group could no longer avoid.
The Friedkin Group felt Dyche had ‘given up’, after he told them he’d taken the team as far as he could.
By Saturday morning, Everton had confirmed the arrival of David Moyes – and the hope is that this appointment will serve as the catalyst for change.
The new manager needs backing this month, and Alan Shearer feels Moyes will have assurances from The Friedkin Group over new signings.
One man who might be on his way this month is Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff, and his manager Eddie Howe has given an update on his future.
Eddie Howe fails to rule out move for Sean Longstaff amid Everton transfer interest

Everton were reported recently to hold an interest in Longstaff, along with Wolves and Leicester City.
Longstaff started the season in favour at St. James’ Park, but has lost prominence in recent times with the likes of Bruno Guimaraes, Joelinton and Sandro Tonali all shining, with Newcastle now one of the most in-form teams in the Premier League.
Longstaff will only have one year left on his contract in the summer, so potentially it will be a good time for Newcastle to sell in this window.
Speaking about Longstaff’s future, Howe said (via Chronicle Live): “I think Sean is fighting for his place and he has responded well to that challenge. It is very difficult for him and it is always very difficult for any player.
“You are competing for a place and you are seeing the team actually perform really well. We are really stable in midfield. The challenge for you then goes up. It is the same for all of our midfielders.
“The competition for places is so strong. You have six top players who all want to play, and if I go with that system, I can only pick three.”
Longstaff shouldn’t be a priority for Moyes
This is an intriguing update from Howe on Longstaff amid interest from Everton – but there are currently other positions that need to be addressed before the midfield.
It’s been reported Everton are looking to sign a new left-back this month.
Sean Longstaff for Newcastle this season
Appearances – 22
Minutes played – 1038
Goals – 0
Assists – 0
Yellow/red cards – 4/0
A new left-back, winger and striker are probably the positions that need some attention from TFG this month, and Everton could indeed land three new signings for Moyes.
Midfield isn’t a priority right now, but perhaps if someone were to leave then Longstaff – described as ‘magnificent’ against Arsenal recently by Stuart Pearce – could be an option, especially since his contract is running down.
