A new era has begun on Merseyside as David Moyes takes charge at Everton for a second spell.

Everton sacked Sean Dyche last week after a run of five games without a win, leaving the club one point above the relegation zone.

Moyes was quickly brought in to steady the ship and has been given a two-year deal by the Friedkin Group.

He’ll be trusted with the task of bringing Everton into the new stadium on Bramley-Moore Dock, which will be their new home from next season.

So it’s absolutely imperative Everton maintain their Premier League status and in order to do so, January reinforcements are needed.

Everton have been linked with Evan Ferguson in recent weeks and a right-back is believed to be on their radar, too.

Now, following Moyes’ appointment, a new position has been identified as an area which needs strengthening.

Everton could sign a new left-back this month

Everton are already eyeing a winger and a right-back this month, with Flamengo’s Wesley Franca understood to be a target.

Jaden Philogene had been linked to Goodison Park but he is now set to join relegation rivals Ipswich Town.

A fresh development has now emerged in regards to the club’s transfer plans as TEAMtalk state a new left-back could now be signed.

Vitaliy Mykolenko, who has been underwhelming at times, is the only player at the club currently in that position, so clearly there is a need for an upgrade or deputy.

The outlet further notes that Everton have already entered talks for a key target, though, there’s no mention of who it is.

Everton are one step away from signing Ernest Nuamah, so it could be referring to the Lyon wide player.

Everton should consider Matt Targett

Everton should allocate most of their funds towards signing attackers, as that’s the most important area to address given the current goalscoring woes.

So at left-back, the Toffees should look to sign a cheap deputy to Mykolenko who could also provide competition.

Newcastle’s Matt Targett would be an ideal signing and according to Alan Nixon, he will be allowed to move on this winter.

Leicester City and Brentford are both showing an interest in the 29-year-old.
