Michael Oliver appointed referee for Everton vs Liverpool
The delay of the Merseyside Derby may have actually worked out for the better from an Everton perspective.
New ownership and a new manager has certainly put the Toffees in a stronger position.
Moyes is pushing for signings at Everton which could even bolster the squad ahead of Liverpool’s visit next month.
On Tuesday, the Premier League announced their latest referee appointments which included Michael Oliver as the official for the derby.
The following officials will also be involved:
- Stuart Burt – Assistant
- James Mainwaring – Assistant
- Chris Kavanagh – VAR
- Eddie Smart – Assistant VAR
- Tony Harrington – Fourth official
Oliver will be in action just a few days prior to the game on Merseyside as he travels up from Ipswich Town’s game against Southampton.
This announcement comes just days after Brighton’s Joel Veltman slammed VAR for conceding a penalty against the Toffees on Saturday.
PGMOL share Michael Oliver statement after Arsenal saga
It has been quite the weekend for Oliver who oversaw Arsenal’s victory over Wolves on the weekend.
Despite the Gunners coming out on top, Oliver was slammed with criticism for his sending off of Arsenal’s Myles Lewis-Skelly.
The backlash from Arsenal fans even saw PGMOL release a statement condemning some of the actions from some fans.
But they are backing their top referee by instantly handing him the whistle for the biggest game on the fixture list.
