Everton are hoping to beat a number of clubs to the signature of Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz.

The summer transfer window could fire back into life on Merseyside if Everton are able to land a player of this calibre.

Luiz skipped Juventus training on Thursday, with his future hanging in the balance with the Old Lady.

After just a year in Turin, the midfielder is ready for change, and David Moyes would like to see him join up with the Blues in the United States.

It is believed Luiz’s agent is in England for talks with Premier League clubs.

But the Toffees will be hoping to come out on top in the race to bolster their midfield ahead of the new term starting.

With suggestions that Luiz to Everton could be concluded very soon, Fabrizio Romano has now shared the player’s priority.

Everton target Douglas Luiz gives Premier League clubs his priority

Juventus are open to selling Luiz this summer, but it has already been made clear they want significant money.

It is not just Everton who are showing interest, though.

And taking to social media, Romano has claimed Luiz has now given his ‘priority’ to a move back to the Premier League.

‘Douglas Luiz wants to go back to Premier League this summer as priority,’ he said.

‘His relationship with Juventus is broken and he will surely leave. Agent now in Italy to assess all options.’

Everton have been keen to sign a new midfielder this summer, despite securing Idrissa Gana Gueye to a new deal.

Luiz is not the only midfielder Everton have identified, but it is clear they could offer him a much-welcome return to England.

Luiz is pushing for a move back to the Premier League

Thursday’s decision from the Brazilian to skip training says a lot about Luiz’s desire to leave Turin.

The move to Serie A has not quite lived up to all it was hoped to be for the former Aston Villa midfielder.

In the midst of this, Moyes is demanding more signings for Everton having now landed in the United States for the Summer Series.

Landing a player like Luiz could prove a real coup for Everton who are looking to take some big strides forward this summer.

He is clearly available, but it is going to come down to whether they can stump up enough money to beat the competition.
