Everton came up well short in their latest Premier League game against Nottingham Forest.

The Toffees fell to a 2-0 defeat against the Reds in the club’s final game of 2024.

Chris Wood and Morgan Gibbs-White got the goals for the visitors. And had it not been for Jordan Pickford – who Pat Nevin felt was ‘really good’ – it would have been a heavier defeat.

Forest were well organised, and took their opportunities when they came.

It was a concerning performance from Everton, and plenty of fans are not happy with what they’ve seen and plenty are understandably criticising Sean Dyche.

Frustratingly, there was once again a lack of threat up top – even with Armando Broja replacing Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

No doubt, the performance will have made for frustrating viewing for one Goodison legend who was spotted at the game today.

Fans were hoping to see Everton build on the positive draws against Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City earlier this month.

In those games, Everton actually did have chances to get more than just a point.

Although Forest have done very well, some felt this was a chance to get a win on the board.

But it was a pitiful performance from Everton and there was no quality in the final third – which has been a running theme under Dyche.

Ahead of the game, journalist Tony Scott shared a picture of one Tim Cahill at Goodison Park.

The Australian – who made 278 appearances and scored 68 goals – was just in front of Scott, and would surely have found the performance of his former club against Forest very frustrating.

Everton fans wanted Cahill on the board

Back in October, some Everton fans were keen to see Cahill take up a role on the board at the club.

Since retiring from the game in 2019, the former attacking midfielder has moved into punditry and also held business-related roles.

Appearances – 278
Goals – 68
Assists – 28

It remains to be seen if The Friedkin Group will make an approach to the cult hero.

After today, some Everton fans will hope the new owners will go out and sign someone who could score goals like Cahill could back in the day.

He had a brilliant knack of popping up in the box and scoring, and was particularly lethal in the air.
