Everton fans will have been given some hope from watching Newcastle United lift their first piece of silverware in 70 years on the weekend.
Jordan Pickford wasn’t happy about Newcastle’s cup win, having grown up a fan of their Wearside rivals Sunderland.
However, Everton find themselves in a similar position to what Newcastle did just a matter of years ago when they were taken over.
The Friedkins are looking to return Everton to the top half of the table and have made some changes to make that happen.
David Moyes will be viewed as Everton’s very own Eddie Howe, with the 61-year-old already getting the Toffees back on track with a nine-game unbeaten run.
Everton are expected to be busy in the summer window as the new owners will finally be able to splash some of their cash.
And it seems the club narrowly missed out in the past on signing a Newcastle player who has become a huge part of Howe’s success on Tyneside.

Everton wanted to sign Newcastle United hero
Local lad Dan Burn stole the show with a goal and Man of the Match performance, and his father wrote an open letter to him ahead of the game.
In the letter, Burn’s father, David, admitted Everton showed a real interest before he made the move to Fulham.
‘You pushed trollies at Asda and grafted in non-League with Darlington before Everton and Fulham came calling. For your medical, I told you to “look the part”. In hindsight, perhaps wearing suits might not have been the best idea, seeing as you had to undress about 15 times,’ he said.
‘Then there was Yeovil — remember son, you’ve already won, and scored, at Wembley — Birmingham and Wigan.’
Arne Slot praised Everton a few weeks ago for preventing his Liverpool side from playing to their usual standards at Goodison Park.
And that is exactly what Newcastle did at Wembley on Sunday, but there was one player who came out as a real hero.
What Arne Slot said about Dan Burn
Everton could have landed themselves a real monster of a defender in the 32-year-old, as he now showcases his talents regularly in the Premier League.
Moyes wanted Everton to sign a new full-back in January and will be hoping for further defensive additions in the summer.
It has been some journey for the Blyth-born defender who has shown his versatility in defence much like Jake O’Brien at Everton.
Traditionally a left-back, Burn has been able to adapt and play inside as a centre-back where he shone on the weekend at Wembley.
Speaking after the game, Slot waxed lyrical about the defender who has now been called up to Thomas Tuchel’s first England squad.
“We knew what a threat Dan Burn was through the air. The quality of him to head the ball that far away from goal, with that speed, with that power. Normal players don’t score from those positions,” he said.
