Many former Everton player have tried their hand at management.

Mikel Arteta is currently the most successful, as he prepares to manage Arsenal in the Champions League semi-finals later this month.

The likes of Wayne Rooney and Duncan Ferguson have given it a shot, but unfortunately, with little success.

Although there are reports emerging that Rooney could now land the Blackburn Rovers job, which would be a decent return to management.

And now, another former Everton player is being linked with a high-profile job, as Leicester City have him on their shortlist to replace Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Lee Carsley heavily linked with Leicester City job

Leicester’s relegation from the Premier League was confirmed over the weekend as they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Liverpool.

It was their 16th defeat in their last 18 league games, so unsurprisingly, Van Nistelrooy is now expected to leave the club.

According to talkSPORT, former Everton player and current England under-21s boss Lee Carsley is emerging as a candidate to replace the Dutchman.

Carsley, who played under David Moyes, is considered a ‘top contender’ and he was linked with the job when Steve Cooper was sacked in November.

So clearly, he’s admired by the Leicester hierarchy, who are also eyeing Russell Martin and Cesc Fabregas.

The Friedkin Group considered Carlsey before appointing David Moyes

After his brief stint as England’s interim manager, Carsley was being heavily linked to replace Sean Dyche.

The Friedkin Group were considering Carsley, but ultimately, they opted for the more tried and tested Moyes – a decision that’s been vindicated.

Carsley rejected the chance to become Moyes’ assistant as he wanted to wait for the right opportunity to become a fully fledged manager.

Indeed, just a few months later, the former Toffees man may get his big break with Leicester, who will be one of the favourites to gain promotion from the Championship next season.

The Foxes have a number of bright young players coming through the ranks, so it’s a project that could really suit the England youth manager.
