Asmir Begovic admits he’s ready to asses options outside of Everton

After making his return in the summer, it has been a quiet season for Asmir Begovic who has not played any football for the Toffees.

However, the Bosnian has brought something to the club, with Jarrad Branthwaite hailing Begovic’s leadership skills.

Speaking to World Soccer magazine, Begovic has opened up about what lies ahead for him over the coming weeks.

“My immediate focus is to help the team maintain its Premier League status. I’m 37, in good physical condition and still able to play to a high standard. Come the end of the season, I will assess my options and go for the one that suits me and my family,” he said.

“Medium to long-term I’m open-minded regarding coaching as I have both UEFA B licences (outfield and goalkeeping) I speak several languages, have networks in various countries, so a sporting director role would interest me.

“I’m also enjoying my media work I want to stay in football in some capacity but it all depends on being given the right opportunity”

Begovic has impressed in Everton training as he has constantly pushed Jordan Pickford and Joao Virginia at Finch Farm.

But the Toffees are going to need some movement at goalkeeper with Joao Virginia also coming to the end of his contract.

Begovic has enjoyed working under David Moyes

The experienced presence will have certainly played a role behind the scenes, given he has not been put to work on the pitch.

Begovic admitted he was shocked by Sean Dyche’s sacking, which took place just hours before their FA Cup clash against Peterborough United.

But what Moyes has brought to the club since January has shown the right decision was made by the new Everton owners.

And the Bosnian has said he’s been so impressed with the changes made under the 61-year-old.
