Everton could be set for a pretty frantic end to the January transfer window.

The Toffees are yet to make a signing this month whilst all of their relegation rivals are busy adding to their squads.

So clearly, Everton can’t afford to stand still and it’s understood David Moyes is keen to get at least two signings through the door.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Armando Broja’s injury has forced them to sign a striker and it seems Hamza Igamane is close to joining Everton.

And now, Orel Mangala’s season-ending injury could see them dip into the market for a replacement.

With that said, here’s the defensive midfielder Everton should sign to replace Orel Mangala.

Everton should sign Dan Neil as Orel Mangala’s replacement

Everton have already shown an interest in Dan Neil this month after his productive performances for Sunderland.

The deal didn’t progress after the Black Cats made it clear he wouldn’t be departing for any less than £15m, but now Everton may return with an offer following Mangala’s injury.

Moyes has previously admitted he wants the club to recruit from the Championship.

“We continue to look closer to home, which is the Championship,” the Everton boss explained, via the Sunderland Echo.

“Last year, the Championship produced some incredible players like (Morgan) Rogers, (Adam) Wharton, (Jaden) Philogene possibly. The Championship is always a place we should be looking to see.”

Clearly, it seems Moyes would be really keen on recruiting someone like Neil, however, it remains to be seen if the cash-strapped Toffees can afford to complete a £15m deal, without any outgoings.

Everton should sanction Beto sale to fund Neil transfer

Beto has been linked with Torino for the majority of the transfer window, and yet, he remains an Everton player.

Moyes isn’t convinced on the towering frontman and would be happy to sanction his sale if a replacement came in, so the club should cut their losses and strike a deal with the Serie A outfit.

If they’re shrewd, Beto’s sale could fund the Neil transfer and perhaps a forward on loan, so there’s plenty of options for the Toffees to do.

A busy end to the window ensues for the Merseysiders.
