Everton may not have made any moves in the January transfer window, but Kevin Thelwell is being kept busy on Merseyside.

David Moyes has his focus on the upcoming game against Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday with a seven-point gap on the bottom three to play for.

Paul Merson is expecting a heavy loss for Everton against Brighton despite the Toffees impressing so much against Tottenham Hotspur.

Everton fans have been hit with their own reality check this month as they await the Friedkins to make their first signing since taking over in December.

But Moyes has now sent Thelwell and Leighton Baines on a scouting mission to report back on one youngster he really likes at the club.

Kevin Thelwell scouted Everton’s Harrison Armstrong for David Moyes

Between them, Moyes and Thelwell have been assessing Everton’s transfer targets this month as they look to dip into the market.

But for now, Moyes is having to rely on the players he inherited from Sean Dyche’s tenure.

According to The Athletic, Thelwell and Baines were both sent to watch Harrison Armstrong in action on Tuesday night.

Armstrong was in FA Youth Cup action for Everton’s U18s on Tuesday night at Goodison Park.

Everton progressed to the next round, but the 18-year-old casted a ‘frustrated’ figure on Merseyside in a testing evening for the youngster.

Since arriving, Moyes has been really impressed by Armstrong in Everton training with the youngster included in the squad against Spurs on Sunday.

However, he is yet to play in either of Moyes’ opening two games.

Everton receiving interest in Harrison Armstrong this month

A big decision lies ahead of Moyes as to what is the best next step for the midfielder on Merseyside.

He may have impressed the 60-year-old, but Armstrong is receiving loan interest from a number of Championship sides.

The prospect of playing regular senior football could prove a really attractive move for the 18-year-old who will be keen to up his development.

With Abdoulaye Doucoure not exactly lighting the league up in the attacking midfield role, Saturday’s game against Brighton may be a big indication as to whether Armstrong will be used by Moyes.

And if the answer is Moyes does not yet trust Armstrong from the start, perhaps the best solution is to send him out on loan.
