Everton fans hope the appointment of David Moyes will now be the catalyst for change.
The Friedkin Group sacked Sean Dyche on Thursday, just hours before the club took on Peterborough United in the FA Cup.
The timing was a surprise, but many Evertonians believe this decision was necessary given how poor performances and results have been this season.
Details are emerging about the previous manager’s final days at Goodison Park. Apparently, Dyche upset the Everton dressing room with his public criticism of Jarrad Branthwaite.
Dyche also admitted to The Friedkin Group he felt he’d done all he could with the team, which led the new owners to negotiate a severance package.
On Saturday morning, Everton confirmed the appointment of David Moyes on a two-and-a-half-year deal – and the Scot has plenty of work to do on his return to the club.
One situation he’ll need to address is Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s future – and Leon Osman has offered his thoughts.
Leon Osman thinks David Moyes should fight to keep Dominic Calvert-Lewin at Everton

This season, Calvert-Lewin has been a source of frustration.
The striker has scored just two goals, with the last of those two coming against Aston Villa all the way back in August.
He’s really struggled in front of goal, but he’s not the only one.
There’s been speculation recently about his future, with a number of clubs including Atalanta keen on Calvert-Lewin.
Former Everton midfielder Leon Osman appeared on talkSPORT Friday to talk about Calvert-Lewin -and he feels Moyes should be looking to keep hold of Calvert-Lewin.
He said: “It’s a difficult one because the last thing you want is your main striker to be leaving straight away and having nobody to replace that person, even as a focal point.
‘So I’d be very surprised if, the new manager coming in, his first act was to let Dominic Calvert-Lewin go without knowing that there is somebody coming in to replace that.
“In a perfect world, if he is going to leave you’d take the money for him now. But staying in the Premier League is a lot more important than trying to get anything you can for Calvert-Lewin. Him staying about at the moment is important.”
Moyes needs quick resolution to Calvert-Lewin saga
Everton are in a very precarious position right now, and things need to change quickly.
TFG have appointed Moyes in the hope that his return will serve as a catalyst after the struggles under Dyche, and there are a number of key decisions for the new Everton manager to make.
What happens with Calvert-Lewin this month will be particularly interesting.
| Position | Team | Played MP | Won W | Drawn D | Lost L | For GF | Against GA | Diff GD | Points Pts |
| 16 | 19 | 3 | 8 | 8 | 15 | 25 | -10 | 17 |
While Calvert-Lewin – described previously (BBC Sport) by Dyche as ‘outstanding’ – has scored goals at Premier League level, he has been woefully out of form this season and there’s obviously been speculation about clubs potentially signing him this month.
Moyes needs to know where Calvert-Lewin’s head is at now, following his arrival as Dyche’s successor.
If there is any hint that Calvert-Lewin isn’t 100% in at Everton, then he must be offloaded. Because the new manager needs players who are fully committed to the cause.
If Calvert-Lewin is going to go, then Evan Ferguson is of interest to Everton and hopefully, a deal can be done to get the Brighton striker.
