Everton will now have to make the next big decision in finding Sean Dyche’s successor, despite David Moyes looking like the early favourite.

Sean Dyche was sacked on Thursday afternoon after a dismal spell of form at Everton.

Dyche took Everton as far as he could and now The Friedkin Group will be in the search for his replacement.

David Moyes and Paulo Fonseca have emerged as early candidates as Moyes could be set for a return to Goodison Park.

However, a well-known manager is now keen on the prospect of taking the helm at Everton.

Lee Carsley ‘open’ to becoming Everton’s next manager

With Moyes seemingly in talks with Everton, could the Friedkin Group turn to former England interim manager, Lee Carsley, as a potential suitor for the vacant Everton position.

Journalist, Harry Watkinson, has detailed that Carsley is ‘open’ to the prospect of becoming Everton’s next manager.

Carsley recently had a fairly successful stint as England’s interim manager and now has returned to his duties with the England U21 squad.

Carsley is of course already an Everton fan favourite after amassing 166 appearances for the Toffees playing under Moyes himself.

The 50-year-old could take on his first full-time position as a manager in his already long footballing career.

Everton’s Jordan Pickford on Lee Carsley’s England stint

Only one Everton player has been a consistent England international and that comes in the form of no.1 Jordan Pickford.

The Everton goalkeeper endured a positive time with Carsley after experiencing six games together, with Pickford labelling his time with Carsley as ‘class’.

The pair have already had a few bumps in the road, however, after Carsley decided to drop Pickford for Dean Henderson on England duty.

During November, the goalkeeper had a questionable performance in England’s shock 2-1 defeat to Greece, with Pickford being slammed by pundits. Carsley looked for a ‘reaction’ and dropped Pickford in England’s 3-1 win over Finland.

Despite this Pickford would’ve liked to see Carsley take on the England role permanently when speaking to BBC 5 Live.

“Yeah, with England you’ve seen a pathway for young age groups. It’s been there with the manager side as well.

“My first manager was Gareth (Southgate) and he had eight years with the senior level so there is always that opportunity.”

How Carsley would be perceived by the Everton supporters as manager would be questioned, but if he’s anything like he was in his playing days, it could make for a solid appointment at Goodison Park.
