Michael Keane says Everton sacked a manager who was genuinely ‘fantastic’

Everton have seen a lot of positive change over recent months but defender Michael Keane feels the club has let go of a top-class manager since he’s been at the club.

David Moyes returned to Merseyside back in January with it all to do following a dreadful start to the 2024/25 campaign.

For the large part, the 62-year-old has done an excellent job at Everton.

Tuesday evening’s defeat against Wolves did not go down well, with Moyes slammed for his team selection which saw the Blues dumped out of the Carabao Cup.

The Friedkins backed Moyes in the summer transfer window as Everton brought in nine new signings during their first summer on Merseyside.

Michael Keane was handed a new contract in the summer and he has not looked back since inking the deal.

However, the veteran defender has now questioned one of The Friedkin Group’s decisions since landing at the club.

Michael Keane says Everton sacked quality manager

In recent weeks, Everton fans have praised Keane for his performances in defence during Jarrad Branthwaite’s ongoing injury issues.

Following the takeover, the biggest change on Merseyside was the change of manager, which would appear to have kickstarted Everton’s revival.

Speaking to TalkSPORT, Keane has waxed lyrical about former Everton manager Sean Dyche, who remains out of work.

“Sean was a fantastic manager. He’s been amazing for me personally at Burnley and when he was here as well,” he said. (2:37)

“I think he had a really difficult situation when he came here. The club was in a bit of a mess and he did unbelievably well to keep us safe for a couple of years.”

Recently, Dyche has been mooted as a potential option for Rangers, following their slow start to the new season under Russell Martin.

Although his time at Everton came to an end, it is apparent that some of the players still at the club hold the 54-year-old in high regard.

Sean Dyche remains without a club since Everton exit

There are a number of clubs who have been linked with a potential swoop for the former Everton boss in recent weeks.

Dyche has been suggested as an option for West Ham, with Graham Potter’s job coming under real scrutiny.

The irony there is that a win for Everton on Monday night could play a big role in Potter’s future.

Since departing, the former Everton boss has spoken a lot about his time on Merseyside and the difficulties that he faced.

Dyche spoke to Moyes ahead of the managerial switch, but he insisted that the side just needed a fresh voice.

It may now only be a matter of time before he makes his return to the game.
