Everton’s pursuit of Middlesbrough’s Hayden Hackney has certainly hit a stumbling block.

It initially appeared that Hackney to Everton could be a fairly straightforward deal for the Blues to get over the line after talks with the player.

However, Boro are digging their heels in as Angus Kinnear is being made to sweat over his pursuit for the Championship’s Player of the Season.

How are we being punished again by the Premier League? 😡

Middlesbrough have not responded to Everton over Hayden Hackney

It has been suggested that Everton are prepared to increase their offer for Hackney, which is exactly what Boro will be hoping for.

Speaking on A View From The Bullens, Everton insider The Bobble has shared the latest on the pursuit for the 23-year-old.

How would you feel about Hayden Hackney becoming Everton’s first signing? 🤩

“At the point of recording on Thursday, June 11th, Everton have not heard back this week about where Middlesbrough stand,” he said.

“All the talk about two bids being rejected – with reports that Everton have gone to £14m and £17m, or numerous publications claiming Crystal Palace have bid £20m or £25m – is complete fabrication right now. Everton have not heard anything back this week, so Middlesbrough are being tough.

“Again, it all depends on whether they are in a rush or not.”

There have also been suggestions that Tottenham could now make a move for Hackney after seeing talks with Everton struggle of late.

It must be remembered that Hackney is keen to join Everton and has given the Toffees his priority following talks with Angus Kinnear.

Any indication of this being a simple transfer that Everton could secure ahead of the market opening on Monday does appear to have been slightly premature.

It is said that Boro would be open to keeping Hackney for the final year of his contract, but that could well be a front to try and push the likes of Everton closer to their asking price.

By not responding to Everton this week, the Championship side have set their stall out and are making it clear they are not looking to back down from their valuation.
