Everton’s dithering could prove costly as Hayden Hackney twist emerges

Everton are finally willing to accept Middlesbrough’s demands for Hayden Hackney.

Talks between the Blues and Boro have been ongoing after Hackney agreed to join Everton following his meeting with Angus Kinnear.

Everton, however, were unable to reach an agreement with the Championship outfit, who made it clear they were in no rush to offload their star player.

Crystal Palace have now entered the race to sign Hackney, with Everton’s efforts perhaps proving too little, too late.

Everton risk losing Hayden Hackney to Crystal Palace

Everton have been knocked back by Boro with two bids for Hackney over recent days.

The Teesside club have stuck to their demand of at least £20m for the Championship Player of the Season.

It is now understood that Everton are finally willing to bid £20m for Hackney after failing to convince Boro to lower their asking price.

Unfortunately for Everton, that may now come at a price as Crystal Palace are doing all they can to convince Hackney to move to London.

This comes as the Eagles are also readying their own bid after witnessing Everton’s dithering transfer strategy.

Everton are in need of a strong summer transfer window after the dismal ending to their 2025/26 campaign.

David Moyes has urged The Friedkin Group to back him over the coming months, but the Hackney saga has left many feeling not much has changed.

Although it must be stressed that the market does not open until next week, Everton have left themselves vulnerable when it comes to their pursuit of Hackney.
