Everton are in the market for defensive reinforcements.

David Moyes wants a new right-back after Ashley Young’s departure earlier this month, and Kenny Tete was a top target for Everton.

However, Tete has decided to renew his contract with Fulham, so Moyes and his chiefs have been forced to go back to the drawing board.

A central defender is also thought to be a position the Scotsman wants to strengthen and Maxime Esteve has been linked to Everton.

However, a fresh Everton transfer rumour emerged on the weekend as Moyes has opened talks to sign Lyanco, a former Southampton defender.

Southampton fans send message to Everton as David Moyes eyes Lyanco

Everton are clearly looking to add more depth to their centre-back ranks and Atletico Mineiro’s Lyanco is emerging as a target.

The Brazilian had a two-season spell at Southampton and their fans have been reacting to the Everton rumour on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“Chest-thumper and passionate sure but one of the most shambolic defenders I have seen at Saints,” @fatboyscum said.

@Gaztrefjones79 admitted: “A lot of heart but not PL quality.”

“Everton, steer clear,” @southamba_sk warned.

@ragga_remo simply said: “Hilarious.”

“He was s— and doesn’t have the capacity to jump to the prem,” @XI06666 commented.

@74CoeN has a contrasting opinion: “Most passionate player we had here for a good few years. Miss that in the team. No one there comes close. He loved a good tackle. I’d take him back in a second.”

Everton don’t really need a centre-back

Everton’s priority is a right-winger and once that’s boxed off, there is a pressing need to sign a creative midfielder, a number eight and a right-back.

The Toffees don’t really need another centre-back as they’re well stocked in that area after Michael Keane’s contract renewal.

That said, the Lyanco links don’t really make a lot of sense and perhaps that interest was held earlier in the window, before Keane’s new contract.

Moyes seems focused on landing one of Takefuso Kubo, Tom Fellows or Omari Hutchinson, who are the three wingers on his shortlist.
