The Friedkin Group’s three-point checklist they must complete to return Everton to their past glories

The Friedkin Group recently completed their Everton takeover.

The American investors have taken the reigns from Farhad Moshiri and have big ambitions for the football club.

The move from Goodison Park to Bramley-Moore dock is expected to be transformative for Everton’s finances.

So they’re set to spend much more freely in the forthcoming transfer windows and with that, they hope to get the Toffees back up the table and challenging for Europe again.

To do that, though, it will require the Friedkin’s to complete this three-point checklist.

Hire Dan Friedkin

The first point of call is to resolve the future of sporting director Kevin Thelwell.

Thelwell is out of contract in the summer and there’s been a lot of speculation around whether he’ll be staying or leaving.

Everton were linked to Dan Ashworth in December, following his shock exit from Manchester United, so it’s clear the club are exploring all options.

Ashworth would be the ideal replacement for Thelwell given his excellent track record for spotting young talent in Europe and South America.

Here are some of his best recruits over the years.

Keep Jarrad Branthwaite

Next on the agenda is to ensure that Jarrad Branthwaite’s future remains on Merseyside amid interest from Manchester United.

It’s understood Everton are already planning to sign Maxime Esteve if Branthwaite departs, so clearly they’re expecting offers this summer.

The Friedkin’s must rebuff any interest in the £70m-rated defender and he’ll be a fixture of Everton’s defence for the next decade.

These of the types of sales Everton have had to make in recent years due to PSR, so it can’t afford to happen anymore if they’re to release European aspirations.

Sign a prolific striker

And finally, perhaps the most important part of the checklist is to finally sign a prolific striker, something the club haven’t had since Romelu Lukaku.

Beto is in fine form at the moment, however, Moyes needs further options in the number nine role to really push on.

Everton have been eyeing Rangers’ Hamza Igamane, though, they couldn’t afford to meet his £25m price tag during the winter window.

Perhaps that’s something they can commit to in the summer.
