Everton’s biggest problem this season has been finding the back of the net.

On David Moyes’ return to Goodison Park, Everton were unable to get their name on the scoresheet as they lost to Aston Villa.

That is not to say the Toffees did not have opportunities as Dominic Calvert-Lewin squandered some big chances to score.

However, the Blues remain the Premier League’s second-lowest goal scorers this season with a return of 15 goals in 20 games.

Moyes is keen to sign a new attacker this month and the need to strengthen their options is there for all to see.

Now halfway through the January transfer window, there is one striker who is said to be keen on a potential move to Merseyside.

Evan Ferguson would approve Everton transfer

Earlier in the window, it has been suggested Everton could make a move for Evan Ferguson on loan until the end of the campaign.

The youngster is in need of a move this month as he requires more regular football to continue his development.

And there has been a fresh claim made with journalist Harry Watkinson claiming the Ireland international would approve a move this month.

‘Evan Ferguson not an option for Everton this month as he’s injured, although he would be open to the move,’ he said on X.

However, there is one issue for Everton fans, with the Toffees now believed not to be considering Ferguson as an option.

With Armando Broja suffering a fresh injury issue last week, it will be interesting to see whether Everton change their mind on Ferguson as an option.

Everton could make a move to sign Tom Cannon back from Leicester City, but that may not be a great look for the Toffees after recently selling him.

Everton expected to terminate Armando Broja loan

After the defeat on Wednesday, Moyes revealed that Broja could be set to miss around three months of action following his injury against Peterborough United.

“We think he’s going to be out for somewhere between 10-12 weeks. It’s his ankle ligaments. It’ll probably mean there’s a possibility that he will have to go back to Chelsea,” he said.

In the same post, Watkinson claimed Everton are set to terminate Broja’s loan following the injury sustained.

That would free up a spot in their loan allowance to potentially bring in another striker.

Perhaps this could twist The Friedkin Group’s arm towards considering Ferguson who has been praised as ‘phenomenal’.

Regardless of whether it is to be Ferguson, it is crucial Everton bring in a new striker to turnaround this dreadful run of form in front of goal.
