Everton secured their Premier League status over the weekend.

With Leicester City losing against Liverpool, it meant that Everton’s goal of mathematical safety has been achieved.

That’s a testament to the job David Moyes has done since rejoining the club at the turn of the year, as Sean Dyche’s side were in real danger of dropping to the Championship.

Moyes has implemented a much more attacking approach, which has given the players a new lease of life after a couple of years operating in a very pragmatic system.

The newly-appointed Everton boss has picked up the seventh most points in the Premier League following his appointment on the 11th of January.

Though, Moyes’ appointment wasn’t met with great optimism by many pundits at the time, and Tony Bellew has just made that point over the weekend.

Tony Bellew urges pundits who doubted David Moyes to admit they got it wrong

Alan Shearer wasn’t convinced when Moyes rejoined Everton and he wasn’t the only pundit who was unsure.

Paul Merson said it was the wrong decision to appoint Moyes, as did Troy Deeney and Theo Walcott; the list goes on.

So, quite rightly, former world championship boxer Tony Bellew, who is a huge Everton fan, has made the point that Moyes has proved so many people wrong in a passionate post on X.

Bellew hailed the Everton manager and labelled the job he’s done as ‘remarkable’ whilst urging those naysayers to admit their incorrect predictions.

Moyes should now aim for top 10 finish next season

Evidently, surviving relegation every season is the bare minimum for Everton, given their illustrious history.

So, the onus will now be on pushing the club back up towards the top half of the league table next season.

James Garner reckons Everton should finish in the top 10 and there is some hope of a European finish after suffering just three defeats in 14 league games under Moyes.

The Friedkin Group will hand Moyes a sizable budget this summer, so he’ll have the resources to sign some quality players.

Everton are already eyeing the likes of Liam Delap and Chris Rigg, who’d cost a combined £70m, indicating the calibre of player they’re keen to sign.
